Veterans Panel Discussion - November 2007
A discussion by a panel of Veterans from conflicts from World War II forward, focused on the human experience of how and why the veterans, as individuals, were in a war, what mindsets existed during their time in the conflict, what attitudes, experience, and mindset did they have, and what did they encounter when they returned.
Multicultural Educational Event - September 2007
The BLDC sponsored a drumming group called the "West African Highlife Ensemble" in conjunction with the annual BLEA picnic.
Pride Month Event - June 2007
Former Boulder City Attorney Joe de Raismes gave a talk titled "Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, and Transgender Issues in the City of Boulder" on Tuesday June 26 at DSRC. This event was sponsored by the BLDC in commemoration of Pride Month.
2007 Boulder Postdoctoral Poster Symposium - June 2007
The 2007 Boulder Labs Postdoctoral Poster Symposium was held on June 14 to promote networking among the staff, especially student and postdoctoral affiliates and to recognize the contributions of postdoctoral affiliates to the research environment of the Boulder Laboratories.
Asian Pop-Culture Event - May 2007
BLDC sponsored an event in commemoration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month featuring a presentation by Andrew Novick from the Time and Frequency Division of NIST.
BLDC Diversity Training Conference - March 6-7, 2007
Filled with exciting talks and dozens of presenters, the conference was held at the UCAR Center Green Campus in Boulder, and was coordinated by the Boulder Labs Diversity Council (BLDC) and University Corperation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). Over 260 employees from Boulder DOC agencies and UCAR attended.
Anxiety & Stress Management Seminar - February 28, 2007
Bonnie Brindle, M.Ed. Psychotherapist gave a talk on decreasing stress and anxiety, improving stress management, and improving communication skills. Participants received tips and tactics for living a more joyful and connected life. The Brown Bag event was sponsored by the Health Unit and supported with publicity assistance by the BLDC.
Black History Month Program - February 2007
On February 7, 2007 the Boulder County Chapter of Blacks In Government, (BIG), hosted a black history program. The keynote speaker for this program was the National President of BIG Ms. Darlene Young, presentating "From Slavery to Freedom."
PHAMALy Presentation - December 12, 2006
BLDC sponsored a unique performing troupe called PHAMALy (Physically Handicapped Actors and Musical Artists League). They gave a wonderful, heartwarming program featuring performances from their local production of "The Wiz." Though many in this group faced various physical challenges - it was apparent that they focus on "ability" rather than "disability" when facing life's challenges.
Black History Month Program - February 2006
In observance of Black History Month, the Boulder County and Downtown Denver Chapters of Blacks in Government present guest speaker Dr. Patricia Doris Sartor. Dr. Sartor is the Executive Course Program Director at the Ira C. Eaker College for Professional Development, Maxwell Air Force Base. The theme is "Our Future is in Today's Youth."
BLEA Picnic - September 2005
The band was Alex Anaya Experiencia who played a variety of Latin music including salsa, cumbia, tejano, corridos and rancheras.
Disabilities Awareness Month, Brown Bag Lunch Talks - October 2005
Series of four brown bag lunch talks, including: Osteoporosis Prevention for Women and Men, Legal Wellness, The Federal Long-term Care Insurance Workshop, and One Family's Miracle.
Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) - September/October 2005
About 2500 people were in attendance. The conference was named "Science for America's Future" and had as a primary focus - mentoring in the sciences to create tomorrow's scientific leaders.
Boulder Laboratories Postdoctoral Poster Symposium - June 2005
The 2005 Boulder Labs Postdoctoral Poster Symposium was held on Wednesday, June 15. The Symposium consisted of a gathering especially for student and post-graduate affiliates to strengthen their networks in addition to a poster session in which 27 posters were contributed by postdoctoral associates.
Asian-Pacific Heritage Month Seminar - May 2005
Long-time Boulder resident Inge Sargent gave a presentation which included a screening of The Last Mahadevi, a documentary about her life.
Bring Your Child To Work Day - April 2005
Coordinated by Debra Dailey-Fisher of OAR's Aeronomy Laboratory with support from the Boulder Labs Diversity Council, hosted 120 elementary and middle school students and their Boulder campus parents, grandparents or family friends. Presenters from all the agencies on campus (NIST, NOAA, and NTIA) provided 12 different programs scheduled multiple times during the day.
Womens History Month Seminar - March 2005
In commemoration of Women's History month, the Boulder Labs Diversity Council welcomed guest speaker, Dr. JoAnn Cram Joselyn who gave a talk entitled "People, Places, and Science: A Good Combination."
In Honor of Black History Month - March 2005
Darlene H. Young, National President of Blacks In Government was the keynote speaker for the Black History Month program. Ms. Young was hosted by the Boulder County Chapter of BIG where she delivered a talk to the scientific community on the importance of African American empowerment. Her talk was entitled "Today's Setbacks Create Tomorrow's Opportunities."
Haskell Indian Nations University Students Visit NOAA and NIST - November 2004
Fourteen students from Haskell Indian Nations University, a tribal college located in Lawrence, Kansas toured the Boulder Laboratories (NOAA and NIST). BLDC sponsored this event as part of American Indian Heritage Month and to expose Native students to NOAA and NIST research. The goal is to encourage the students to apply for summer positions at the laboratories.
Disabilities Awareness Month, Brown Bag Lunch Talks - October 2004
Kevin Pettit spoke about his experiences as a survivor of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Kevin, former physics professor of Carleton College, and visiting scientist at NIST, also wrote a book titled, "Rambling Down Life's Road... with a Brain Injury."
The 2004 Postdoctoral Poster Symposium - June 2004
This poster session, with a total of 40 presentations, was in honor of the Boulder Labs 50 Year Celebration and the 50 Year Anniversary of the NIST/NRC Postdoctoral Associateship Program.
